Michigan football landed its 13th blue-chip commitment in the 2027 recruiting class on Thursday, but the Wolverines have their sights set on a five-star commitment from Joshua Dobson.

The elite cornerback, who is ranked 11th overall, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, is the top recruiting target left on the board for the Wolverines after Dakota Guerrant committed to Oregon earlier this week.

Just like with that decision, Michigan should know where it stands with Dobson soon, too.

5-star Joshua Dobson locks in decision date

According to Dobson's 247 Sports profile, the five-star cornerback has a decision date locked in for July 1st. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback from Cornelius, North Carolina, is down to four schools: Texas A&M, Michigan, South Carolina, and Auburn.

Coming out of the Texas A&M official visit, the Aggies had all the momentum. Four expert projections were logged in favor of A&M for the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, which included Steve Wiltfong.

That being said, it felt like the Wolverines were able to make some headway during Dobson's official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend. It can be difficult to maintain that momentum, though. Dobson is visiting South Carolina this weekend, the program that is closest to home for the elite DB.

Dobson does seem to have a great relationship with Kyle Whittingham. He also seems sold on the future of the program. His parents really love Michigan, too, especially his mom, because of the academics. Even Floyd "Money" Mayweather was recruiting Dobson to Ann Arbor last weekend as the Wolverines rolled out the blue carpet.

It doesn't feel like Michigan is the team to beat a few days out, though. You never know, though. The Wolverines have closed out some surprise commitments quickly in the 2027 class, maybe they can do it again with Dobson, who is one of the best man-to-man cover guys in the class.

What's worse for Michigan is that one of its backup options if Dobson commits elsewhere, Larry Moon, ended up committing to Georgia Tech on Thursday, instead of taking his official visit.

Monsanna Torbert is also expected to take an official visit this weekend. However, Ohio State has grabbed the lead for the highly-touted cornerback from Cincinnati. Usually, when the Buckeyes prioritize a kid from Ohio, they get him, so it feels like an uphill battle for Michigan football.

That's why Dobson is a must-get, and in just over a week, the Wolverines wil know.
