Going into the weekend, it felt like Michigan football had a legitimate chance to land five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, one of the recruits taking an official visit this weekend.
The ninth-ranked player overall in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, arrived in Ann Arbor on Friday, and Michigan football is pulling out all the stops.

Not only did Michigan roll out the blue carpet for Dobson, because the Wolverines don't allow red carpet, or red in the building, for obvious reasons, there have been some other impressive things about the visit, including a meeting that had Dobson excited.

Dobson posted a photo of himself with Matthew B. Lester, a Michigan alum who is the founder and CEO of Princeton Enterprises. According to Brice March, who cites regional and industry publications, Lester controls a portfolio valued at over $1 billion.
It's hard to know exactly what that means for Michigan in the recruitment of the 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback out of Cornelius, North Carolina. Dobson just visited Texas A&M last weekend. The Aggies have been trending as the favorite to land the five-star cornerback.
Michigan trying to overtake Texas A&M for five-star CB Joshua Dobson
There were three predictions in favor of Texas A&M for the Rivals Recruiting Prediction machine, including projections from national experts Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons.
However, Dobson has always had a favorable view of Michigan. He seems sold on Kyle Whittingham, while his mom seems really sold on Michigan. This meeting with Lester probably can't hurt.
Even Dobson said that Michigan "definitely has a shot" before the visit started. It's hard to know how much the Wolverines have moved the needle with Dobson. The Wolverines have two four-star cornerbacks already in the fold, but Dobson is on a different level.
We have talked about it before, but with all the firepower in the Big Ten, Michigan is going to need someone like Dobson, who could be the next Will Johnson.
With all the success Jay Hill has had coaching cornerbacks, with BYU leading college football in interceptions the past two seasons, Michigan feels like a great fit. Will the Wolverines will be able to match the NIL funds of Texas A&M? Will that be the deciding factor?
It's hard to say. Those offers are going to matter in the recruitment of a top-10 prospect, so maybe Lester was around for a reason. Either way, it feels like Michigan's chances have improved.
We'll see if that ends up being true.
