Michigan football fans should be excited about another important weekend of official visitors in the 2027 recruiting class.
The Wolverines had a few players on campus last weekend. They are supposed to have 12 visitors this weekend, according to Rivals, but you can tell that some of those visits probably won't happen due to commitments elsewhere.
Other players visited have started to trend to other programs, such as in-state four-star tight end Anthony Cartrwright. Yet, what the weekend lacks in size of recruits, it makes up for with the quality of targets, namely, five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.
One weekend after visiting Texas A&M, Dobson will make his way to Ann Arbor. It felt like it was going to be an uphill battle for the Wolverines, but then Dobson didn't commit to the Aggies, and it felt like the Wolverines had a renewed sense of momentum.
Michigan has a real shot with five-star CB Joshua Dobson
That might be imagined, but there seems to be more positive buzz about Michigan football's chances of landing the No. 11 prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings for 2027. He also said in a recent interview with Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine that "Michigan definitely has a shot."
Dobson is 6-foot-1, 180 pounds out of Cornelius, North Carolina. He's an elite cornerback who would be a great fit for Michigan's new defense under Jay Hill. Think Will Johnson. This is that kind of player.
Texas A&M, Auburn, South Carolina, and Clemson are among the top contenders, along with Michigan football. A ton of other elite programs have offered, such as Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Miami, plus many more.
Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines have put together a solid 2027 class, one that ranks in the top 10 of the 247 Sports composite team rankings, but it doesn't have a recruit quite like Dobson.
Michigan signed two five-stars in 2026, Carter Meadows and Savion Hiter. They both look ready to make an instant impact. Dobson seems like that kind of player, too, which is why this weekend's official visit is so important.
The Wolverines need to take advantage of the opportunity. Five-star Dakota Guerrant is visiting on June 19th, so Dobson will be the focal point this weekend. That gives Whittingham the chance to close.
Dobson has talked highly of the Michigan football head coach. Whittingham has been a big part of the Wolverines' push, so it will be interesting to see what happens this weekend.
A strong official visit could even lead to a commitment, but Michigan needs to make a move at the very least, and it sounds like that is definitely on the table.
