For a little while now, it has seemed as though the Oregon Ducks are inching closer to pulling off a bit of a fast one on Michigan. Kyle Whittingham has made 5-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant a top priority, but the Ducks have gone all-in to get him to leave the state. Several predictions have come in for Oregon, but a new visit to Ann Arbor sure has people talking.
4-star official visit adjustment could have Michigan on commitment watch
Guerrant indeed made his way to town recently, as he's still giving the Wolverines a serious look. From our chair, this feels like it's a two-team battle for one of the top wide receivers in the country. Will he end up rocking with Oregon, or can Michigan get this done after all?

Michigan won't back down with 5-star WR Dakota Guerrant a top priority
Guerrant is all set to return to Ann Arbor on June 19 for an official visit, but getting him on campus beforehand was a smart move on Whittingham's part. If we can be real here, there's simply no excuse for Michigan not to pull this off.
Guerrant is a stud for Harper Woods High, which is about an hour away from UM. Whittingham can sell him on being an elite playmaker close to home, while also catching balls from Bryce Underwood in 2027 and potentially 2028 as well. Guerrant could be a homegrown hero for the school he grew up watching.
The fact that Lanning and Oregon have been so aggressive in their pursuits makes sense, though. According to the 247Sports Composite, the 6-1, 195-pounder is ranked the No. 5 wideout in the country, No. 1 prospect out of Michigan, and No. 36 player nationally for the 2027 class.
Throughout his recruitment, the speedster has picked up 46 offers, which speaks to how touted a recruit he is. Ohio State and Texas A&M have also been in the mix here a bit, but again, plenty of signs are pointing to this battle being down to the Ducks and Wolverines. There's no set date for when Guerrant will shut things down, either, which only gives Michigan more time to make a move here.
Oregon is the presumed favorite, but nothing will be official until the Early Signing Period gets here in December. As things stand, Michigan holds 16 pledges for the '27 haul, as Whittingham's hot streak this offseason brought in some big-name targets. That number is only going to grow with many more official visitors making their way to town.
The hope is that Guerrant will see everything needed to make a call here, but no one can question the fact that the Wolverines will be ready to roll out the red carpet for him. Oregon has done the same, giving him a ton to think about as well. He could move across the country to Eugene to play for Lanning, or he could stay closer to his hometown to be a stud for Michigan. For us, this would be an easy decision, but Guerrant is clearly torn. His final call may be delayed, but that could prove to be a good thing for Whittingham.
