If Michigan football fans were wondering when the next commitment could come for the Wolverines, a big hint was dropped on Tuesday.
Ifeanyi Emedobi, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound EDGE, who is ranked as a four-star recruit, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is one of the Wolverines top targets, and it sounds like he is moving up his official visit from June 19th to June 12th.
Emedobi, who included the Wolverines on his final list, along with Indiana, Minnesota, and Penn State, just completed a visit to Happy Valley. He was supposed to take an official visit to Indiana this weekend, but that schedule has changed, with the four-star pass rusher expected to visit Ann Arbor instead.
It might seem strange not to have Emebodi come for his visit on June 19th, for Victors Weekend, but maybe the Wolverines want to give him more attention this week. That will be more difficult to do on June 19th, when there will be a ton of visitors on campus.
Michigan football's next commitment could be coming soon
Locking Indiana out of an official visit is also important. The Hoosiers felt like one of the biggest contenders, despite just visiting Penn State and Minnesota. According to the recruiting experts from Rivals, Michigan football is already the favorite. The Wolverines have received four different projections to land the four-star EDGE, who is a three-star via the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Those predictions give Michigan a 95 percent chance to land the blue-chip's commitment at some point, which could be this weekend on his official visit. The Wolverines have 16 commitments total in the 2027 class and boast the No. 8 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Michigan's class is ranked 18th by 247 Sports own rankings. However, Rivals and ESPN both have Michigan ranked in the top 10, so Kyle Whittingham's first class is trending up.
If Emedobi does commit to Michigan this weekend or soon after his official visit, that would give the Wolverines 13 blue-chip commitments. They are also the favorite to land four-star offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo, and are also in the mix for elite defensive lineman Seth Tillman, a sack machine, along with five-star targets Joshua Dobson and Dakota Guerrant, who visited campus on Tuesday as part of a 7-on-7 camp.
Whittingham and the Wolverines have a great chance to close on some big-time talents in the next few weeks, and if they can do it, starting with Emedobi, this class could truly be elite with a capital E.
