Michigan football has been on fire on the recruiting trail lately, at one point, landing five commitments in a six-day period.
Another blue-chip commitment is expected this week, on Friday, as four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington, out of Chicago, is expected to pick the Wolverines. He's ranked No. 124 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Michigan has been trending up with some other targets, as well. The Wolverines are in a great position to flip one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Midwest in the 2027 class, plus they are trending up in the recruitment of five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.
Dobson visited Ann Arbor last month and was blown away by the visit. Since then, Michigan has been steadily making progress. Earlier this week, there was some significant movement, as Hobson canceled his official visit to LSU, changing his trip to Ann Arbor instead.
Dobson is ranked ninth overall in the 2027 recruiting class, via the Rivals Industry Rankings. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback out of Cornelius, North Carolina, has official visits scheduled with Texas A&M, South Carolina, Auburn, and now Michigan.
The Wolverines seem to have the most momentum out of those four teams, but pulling the five-star prospect out of North Carolina won't be easy. Kyle Whittingham does have a secret weapon, though, which is his track record.
The Michigan football head coach has won 66 percent of his games. He won three conference titles with Utah, including two in the Pac-12, and led the Utes to an undefeated season in 2008, one that was capped with a win over Nick Saban's Alabama squad in the Sugar Bowl.
One day after announcing the change to his visit schedule, Dobson did an interview with the Maize and Blue Review, offering a key tidbit about why he likes Michigan.
Michigan has one key factor in its favor with 5-star recruit

"I know he's going to win," Dobson said of Kyle Whittingham.
That's an important component for recruits. Whittingham also has an impressive record of sending players to the NFL draft, too. He didn't land as much blue-chip talent with the Utes as Michigan does, but Utah had two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft.
The Wolverines also have a really talented roster that's ready to win now in the Big Ten; some opposing Big Ten coaches even said that Michigan football could be a title contender in 2024, although they said it anonymously.
Michigan football is on the rise again after the whole Sherrone Moore fiasco. Dobson clearly sees that, and it's why the Wolverines feel like legitimate contenders in his recruitment.
