Something that was lost in all the good news on Monday, with another blue-chip commitment coming down for Michigan football, in the pledge of four-star cornerback Darius Johnson, was the fact that the Wolverines had another committed recruit on campus.

Three-star safety Errol Kerns, a Miami (OH) commit, took a surprise visit to Ann Arbor on Tuesday, according to a post from Kerns on X.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound safety out of Indianapolis was recently offered by Michigan football. However, the Wolverines are far from the only major program to enter the fray.

Since the Wolverines offered on May 9th, eight other programs, including seven in the Power 4, have extended offers, including Indiana and Texas A&M. Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Kentucky, and Northwestern also jumped into the mix for the dynamic defensive back who runs the 100-meter dash in 10.78 seconds.

Soon after Kerns was offered, it felt like his recruitment was getting a shake-up. He's clearly a higher-caliber player than the MAC. Miami (OH) was only going to be able to hold onto his commitment for so long once the Wolverines made their offer, and a bunch of others followed.

The versatile defender had 90 tackles last season, to go along with four tackles for loss, five pass breakups, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

Kerns has scheduled an official visit for June. He tagged defensive coordinator Jay Hill in the post about his visit, which is significant, because on Tuesday morning, one day after the visit, Hill posted the "bleed blue" graphic Michigan football assistants have been posting ahead of commitments.

He also said, "On a roll."

Michigan football might have landed yet another commitment

Putting two and two together, it feels like Kerns could be the next player to join the 2027 Michigan football recruiting class.

Some fans might roll their eyes, especially the rivals, if Michigan flips a kid from the MAC, but that's only looking at the surface of this recruitment. Michigan's evaluation changed this recruitment. When you have teams from the Big Ten and SEC flooding you with offers, that means something.

Not only is Kerns a ball-hawk, but he's got the kind of speed you want to see in the secondary. If Michigan is going to hold up against teams like Ohio State, Indiana, and Oregon, it's going to need elite athletes on the back end of the defense.

Kerns certainly qualifies. He's a good football player, too, with strong production. Frankly, it's hard to see how he's not a four-star recruit.

By the time he signs with Michigan, he probably will be.

The Wolverines have landed five commitments in the past six days, maybe Michigan will make it six out of seven.
