Michigan is gaining traction with a 5-star corner, who has an official visit scheduled

Michigan continues to aggressively pursue 5-star talent and it is already paying dividends. As previously reported, the Wolverines were looking for an official visit from elite recruit Joshua Dobson, and on Monday their hard work paid off.

According to Hayes Fawcett, Dobson will not be taking a previously scheduled visit to LSU, but instead will be coming to Ann Arbor June 11-13. He was also an attendee at the spring game and has had Michigan football in his top five ever since.

Previously, the Tigers had an 85.6 percent chance to land him in Baton Rouge according to Rivals. Whatever Kyle Whittingham and his staff have done to convince Dobson to change his plans after appearing to be so wedded to LSU appears to have worked. And it’s just the latest in a series of great signs for the first year head coach on the recruiting trail.

5-star cornerback would be massive addiiton for Michigan football

Standing at 6-1 with a 6-5 wingspan, Dobson has the length to hang with the tallest receivers and the speed to stay with them. Overall, he ranks as the No. 2 cornerback, No. 1 player in North Carolina, and No. 8 overall prospect in the class of 2027 per Rivals.

This comes on the heels of Michigan’s most recent commitment, Four-star cornerback Darius Johnson from California. They also landed legacy safety Charles Woodson, Jr. as well, among other solid secondary recruits.

It would appear that the Wolverines’ secondary is going to be loaded with talent for the future, just as it has been for some time. Many of its best players in the defensive backfield will likely be gone after this season and so prioritizing those positions makes absolute sense, especially given the marquee wide receivers in the Big Ten.

As of today, Michigan has the No. 11 ranked 2026 recruiting class in the latest Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, and things only appear to be moving up from there.
