Michigan football has some work to do in terms of in-state recruiting in the 2027 class, something that has become clear in recent days.

The biggest in-state target is five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant. It's safe to say that the Wolverines have some ground to make up going into this official visit on June 19th.

Landing Guerrant would be the cherry on top of what has been a stellar recruiting class, but looking at the recruiting board, there is some work to do with some other in-state recruits, too.

Anthony Cartwright and Tre Britton trending away from Michigan football

Anthony Cartwright III, a 6-foot-4, 234-pound tight end, ranked No. 341 overall in the 2027 class, via the Rivals Industry Rankings, will be on campus for an official this weekend, according to his Rivals profile. He's expected to visit Oregon next weekend.

Yet, even before his trip to either school, Cartwright has been projected to land with the Ducks, who now have a 43 percent chance to land his commitment, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.

The Wolverines do have Colt Lumpris committed in the 2027 class. The four-star tight end has tremendous upside, so tight end isn't a massive need, but if the Wolverines want two in the class and want Cartwright, they will have to knock it out of the park this weekend. He has also taken official visits to Stanford, LSU, Michigan State and Miami.

Michigan has moved the needle with recruits when they have gotten them on campus. It happened with Seth Tillman, an elite DL recently, so it's too early to count the Wolverines out.

Tre Britton, a three-star wide receiver from Belleville, was another in-state target that Michigan football seemed to be on the rise with. However, that has changed recently, reflected in some recent expert projections for the Missouri Tigers to land the 5-foot-11, 170-pound wideout ranked No. 662 overall in the 2027 class.

Britton has received five predictions to commit to Missouri. The Tigers saw him a few times during the spring and hosted him for an official visit last weekend. The dynamic slot receiver will be in Ann Arbor for his official visit on June 19th, at least that's on the schedule.

With the way commitments are coming down quicker than ever before, who knows if Britton will be uncommitted at that point? If he is, Michigan will at least have a chance, but it feels like an uphill battle, sort of like it is with Dakota Guerrant.
