Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines are trending up on the recruiting trail in a major way.
After five commitments in the past week or so, Michigan football has surged into the top 20 of the 247 Sports team rankings for the 2027 class (16th).
The Wolverines have landed multiple prospects in the top-100 during this run, including defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad, and also four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell.
Michigan is still big-game hunting, though. The Wolverines are expected to land another four-star commitment this week, on Friday, from Tavares Harrington, who was considered a Notre Dame lean before the Wolverines turned that recruitment in their favor.
The same thing is starting to happen with five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.
Michigan football has been steadily gaining with the five-star recruit, who is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Michigan made a big move in 5 ⭐️ CB Joshua Dobson's recruitment this spring, securing an official visit.

Michigan recruiting insider Ethan McDowell wrote in a post on X that the Wolverines have "made a move" in this recruitment. He even posted a quote attributed to Dobson's father that said, "Just seeing everything Michigan can offer, on and off the field, it was just a home run."
Michigan football is a real factor with 5-star recruit Joshua Dobson
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback is from Cornelius, North Carolina. The Tar Heels aren't a big factor in this recruitment. South Carolina has played a bigger role. They have had him on campus nine times, and are scheduled to get an official visit, along with Texas A&M, Auburn, and now Michigan, after Dobson called off a trip to Baton Rouge, in favor of one to Ann Arbor.
Dobson has been to Auburn five times, Clemson four times, and Texas A&M three times. However, Michigan has made an impact. The five-star recruit was wowed on his first visit to Ann Arbor. His mom also really liked the educational side of things from Michigan, which might matter and might not.
Dobson has also discussed his confidence in Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham's ability to win. That is a key factor moving forward. Dobson is sold on Whittingham. That doesn't mean Michigan is going to get his commitment. The Wolverines have a real chance, though.
Michigan visited Dobson on Wednesday night, keeping the full-court press on one of the Wolverines' top priorities in the 2027 class. U-M has 12 commitments total in the 2027 class. That number will be going up soon, but there could be more than one new pledge on the way.
Dobson's commitment might take a little bit longer, but Michigan fans have good reason to feel confident that the Wolverines can land the five-star cornerback.
