Michigan football's 2027 recruiting class has surged into the top 10 of the 247 Sports composite rankings after a run of commitments in May.
The Wolverines have 15 now after landing 10 pledges this month. There could be two more on the way, as Michigan football started trending for three-star linebacker Brayden Watson on Monday, following expert projections for Michigan to land a blue-chip EDGE over the weekend.
Really, since Michigan football was able to flip four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati from Illinois, the momentum hasn't slowed down. The Wolverines have landed 10 four-star recruits, via the 247 Sports composite rankings, since March 29.
However, if Michigan's class is going to finish in the top 10, there is still work to do. If the latest predictions come true, that would push the Wolverines to 17 commitments.
It doesn't feel like Michigan is going to a sign a 25-man recruiting class, I don't know how many teams will, but it's possible, especially if Whittingham wants more guys he recruited on the roster.
Either way, Michigan has done a bunch of work in the 2027 class. Much of that work lately has been invested in a pair of five-star recruits, Joshua Dobson and Dakota Guerrant.
Two 5-star targets that can help Michigan's class compete with Oregon and Ohio State
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound receiver, Guerrant, out of Harper Woods, is the top-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan for the 2027 class. 247 Sports ranks him as a five-star prospect (No. 15 overall).
Oregon has been trending as the favorite, but Whittingham's staff has been on a full-court press to change that. Guerrant is scheduled to take official visits to Michigan and Oregon. It's not going to be easy to overcome the Ducks.
However, Michigan has made up serious ground. The entire offensive staff visited Guerrant. It was similar to what the staff did with Charles Woodson Jr. There's no question progress has been made, but will it be enough to beat out the Nike-powered Ducks?
We shall see. Guerrant would take this class from good to great. Landing Guerrant and five-star Joshua Dobson would take it from great to elite.
Michigan might have a better shot with Dobson, who just canceled an official visit to LSU in favor of Michigan. He has also sung the praises of Whittingham, saying that he knows Michigan's new head coach will win, and his parents love Michigan, too.
Texas A&M, Auburn, and South Carolina are the top competition for Dobson, who is ranked ninth overall in the 2027 class out of Cornelius, North Carolina.
Michigan has two top-100 commitments right now. 11/15 commitments are blue-chip prospects with another projected on the way. That's a really good class. It's not going to compare that well to the likes or Oregon and Ohio State, though.
If Michigan wants to get on that level, the recruitments of Dobson and Guerrant are two that the Wolverines need to win.
