Michigan football's recruiting has been off the charts in recent weeks. The Wolverines have landed nine commitments in May alone and may not be done.

We knew another commitment would be coming at some point. There wasn't a clear target, though, who was trending toward Michigan.

That has already changed on Saturday as EDGE Ifeanyi Emedobi started trending with expert projections to commit to the Michigan football program in the 2027 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound EDGE out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is ranked No. 435 overall, a four-star via the 247 Sports composite rankings. The ranking might not be overly impressive; however, the list of contenders is as Michigan is battling the in-state Indiana Hoosiers, the defending national champions for Emedobi, along with Penn State, Minnesota, and South Florida.

The productive EDGE was credited with 50 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and five sacks last season. Lewis Powell, the Michigan football EDGE coach, has made Emedobi a top priority for the Wolverines in the 2027 class.

Allen Trieu of Rivals and Ethan McDowell, who covers Michigan football recruiting for The Wolverine, have each projected the blue-chip recruit to U-M on Saturday morning, one day after the Wolverines landed four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington, out of Chicago, in a recruitment that Notre Dame and Alabama were heavily involved in.

Michigan on the cusp of a top-10 recruiting class

The Wolverines have 14 commitments. 10 of those commitments in the 2027 class are ranked as blue-chip prospects (4-star or higher), so not only is Michigan football adding players at a high quantity, but they are also getting high quality.

Even the three-star prospects, Charles Woodson Jr. and Lundon Hampton, give you reasons to believe they will be contributors down the road for Michigan football.

A commitment from Emedobi could push Michigan into the top 10. It's stil only May, so rankings don't matter that much, just like U-M fans were saying earlier this spring, when rival fans were making fun of Michigan's recruiting class.

It's a yearly thing. Then, Michigan gets hot in the spring and signs a solid class. Even after starting behind the 8-ball, Kyle Whittingham has the Wolverines in position to sign a top-10 class. It's been really impressive with some victories over Notre Dame and Alabama on the trail.

Michigan has won some head-to-head recruiting battles, and it feels like Whittingham is about to win another.
