Michigan football has started the 2027 recruiting class off pretty slowly. That makes sense, given the sudden firing of Sherrone Moore and the fact that an almost entirely new coaching staff had to redevelop relationships with just about every recruit. Many were rightfully worried that the 2027 class was going to be a wash. However, it appears that this coaching staff is committed to making sure the 2027 class is up to Michigan standards.
The Wolverines received a big-time commitment last week with top 100 OT Jakari Lipsey announcing his commitment to Kyle Whittingham and co, and it appears that more high-profile commits could be on the way. Four-star running back Tyson Robinson, ranked as the No. 15 RB in the nation, is set to announce his commitment on May 16th. As of now, all indications point towards Michigan being the team to beat. The Mississippi native would be a big win for coach Tony Alford.
Along with Robinson, the Wolverines recently received predictions in their favor for four-star EDGE Jayce Brewer. The top six for the Indiana native include Michigan, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Auburn, and Purdue. It appears that Michigan is the team to beat, and while Brewer doesn't have a commitment date scheduled, a commitment could happen anytime. Stealing Brewer from the reigning national champions would be great for the Wolverines.
Lastly, Michigan has received tons of momentum with top-100 wide receiver Quentin Burrell. The recruitment of the Chicago native has been a Michigan vs Notre Dame battle, with each side feeling confident at times. Now, however, it appears that the Wolverines have built a significant lead in Burrell's recruitment. Burrell has been planning on taking official visits throughout the Summer, but the sudden surge of predictions in Michigan's favor could put those plans in doubt. This is definitely one to watch over the next few days.
Michigan football has put itself in a great position with a handful of recruits, and this momentum appears as it will only continue to grow as the staff builds deeper connections with more and more recruits. Keep an eye out for more predictions or any commitments.
