Michigan football got some very good news on Thursday afternoon, as a top-100 defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad committed to the Wolverines. This one seemingly came out of nowhere, and it's another huge win for Kyle Whittingham in his first class as Michigan's head coach.
Michigan football landed elite wide receiver Quentin Burrell on Wednesday (ranked 86th), and now adds another top-100 player to the class, joining offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey. Kyle Whittingham is on an absolute heater right now, and it doesn't seem like the momentum is going to slow down anytime soon.
Michigan football is the favorite for more blue-chip commitments
On Saturday, top running back target Tyson Robinson is set to announce his commitment, and Michigan is the favorite there. After Robinson, top safety target Tavares Harrington is set to commit on the 22nd, and Michigan is the favorite there as well.
Many were concerned that Whittingham, at age 66, wouldn't have the recruiting chops that younger coaches have. He's quickly proving those doubters wrong, showing that he's willing to do whatever he needs to in order to win.
Earning Muhammad's commitment might be his biggest win to date. The 6'4 Houston native was being sought after by just about every top program in the nation. For Whittingham and Michigan to go into Texas and land one of the states top recruits is incredibly impressive. There was no indication leading up to the commitment that this was going to happen, or even that Michigan was the leader. Whittingham and his staff are moving quickly and getting things done.
It's an exciting time to follow Michigan football recruiting. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for any other potential surprises.
