Michigan's surge up recruiting rankings is projected to continue with another 4-star commitment

Michigan football has been red hot on the recruiting trail, which should continue on Friday with another blue-chip commitment.

May has been very good to the Michigan football program, at least on the recruiting trail.

Under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, Michigan has landed eight commitments this month. The latest came on Thursday, as three-star, in-state recruit Lundon Hampton, a dynamic running back, chose the Wolverines over Michigan State and others.

That came on the heels of four-star cornerback Darius Johnson, announcing his commitment to the Wolverines on Monday, as well as four-star running back Tyson Robinson doing the same on Saturday.

It's been a whirlwind for Michigan football fans, one that should continue on Friday night with the commitment of four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback/safety is from Chicago and is ranked No. 124 overall. He's been trending with expert projections to Michigan, even though he's from Notre Dame's backyard.

The Fighting Irish and Alabama are the top contenders, but it looks like the Wolverines will secure yet another blue-chip commitment as it makes a furious rise up the 2027 recruiting rankings.

Michigan football's recent surge, which also included some key four-star commitments in April, such as flipping quarterback Kamden Lopati (No. 122 overall) from Illinois, has the Wolverines up to No. 14 in the team rankings for the 2027 class. Michigan has 13 commitments. Nine of them are blue-chip prospects.

One of the three-star recruits is Charles Woodson Jr. He looks like a potential four-star. Hampton is another dymanic player who rushed for 1,266 yards last season to go along with 588 receiving.

The fact that Michigan kept Hampton away from Michigan State was critical. The Wolverines are also winning some head-to-head battles with Notre Dame. They have lost some, too, but Harrington will be the second land out of Chicago in the past few weeks. Quentin Burrell is the other, and both were considered Notre Dame leans at one point.

Another blue-chip commitment is coming for Michigan football

Harrington is expected to announce his commitment Friday night on the Rivals YouTube Channel (8 PM EST). All signs are pointing to the Wolverines landing their 10th blue-chip commitment. It probably won't get Michigan into the top 10, but Whittingham also has Michigan squarely in the mix for two five-star targets in the 2027 class.

Joshua Dobson is one of those. He has just canceled his visit to LSU to take an official visit to Ann Arbor. Michigan also paid him an in-home visit earlier this week. The Wolverines are trending up there, just like they are trending up in a big way in the 2027 class.
