Michigan football fans could use some good news to distract them from the NCAA's ruling in the Connor Stalions case, even though it wasn't that bad, and they could get it on Tuesday.
Five-star running back Savion Hiter, the last five-star recruit left uncommitted in the 2026 class, will be announcing his college decision on Instagram. The No. 9 overall prospect in the 2026 class out of Mineral, Virginia, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, has a final four of Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Michigan.
Michigan football in the lead for 5-star RB
The Wolverines have felt like the leader since the end of official visit season. It's been hard to read. Hiter has played things close to the vest. It was reported back earlier this summer that Michigan and Tennessee were trending near the top, but Hiter pushed back on that.
Therefore, there haven't been any expert projections. It doesn't feel like there will be either. It's going to be a true surprise. Josh Henshcke of The Maize and Blue Review reported on Monday that there is still "confidence" on the Michigan football side of things.
You just never know. All four teams involved are capable of winning a big-time recruitment like this. For Michigan, it's imperative. The Wolverines have landed a recruit ranked in the top 200 overall at every position (not counting specialists) but running back.
For a team with an identity built around, "smash" getting a big-time running back is a must. National championship teams have elite quarterbacks but in college football, an elite ground game is just as important.
Hiter would be a great partner for Bryce Underwood. Michigan fans have been obsessed with the program landing a five-star wideout. I'd prefer a five-star running back, and the vibes have been good. Hopefully, things haven't changed, and Michigan seals the deal.
