Bryce Underwood stands out in Michigan football scrimmage, freshman RB turns heads

Bryce Underwood has continued to earn the starting quarterback job for Michigan football plus more Saturday's scrimmage.

Despite what Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said this past week about the starting quarterback job, it seems clear that Bryce Underwood will be the Wolverines' starter.

The 6-foot-4, 228-pound freshman had another solid performance on the field Saturday in a scrimmage held by the Wolverines, according to a report from Josh Henschke of the Maize and Blue review.

Jadyn Davis is trending to be the backup quarterback right now. That tells you about the health of Mikey Keene, which is still a work in progress. It also gives you an idea why Michigan football added Jake Garcia from the transfer portal.

It had nothing to do with worries about Underwood. You need depth, though. Keene was supposed to be the insurance policy. As of now, though, Davis might be ahead of him on the depth chart.

In terms of the depth chart, it seems about set on the offensive line. Andrew Sprague had the right tackle job locked down a long time ago, even before camp, in my mind, but he's solidified that this week.

The 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman who started against Alabama has All-Big Ten potential. He's locked down the right tackle job. According to Henschke, Evan Link has done the same on the left side. We haven't heard as much buzz about Andrew Babalola, the freshman five-star recruit.

Babalola is still the future. We'll see how things develop as the season goes along, but Evan Link will open the season as the starter. Nathan Efobi feels like the guy at right guard, just like we predicted.

The running back room depth chart suffered a hit recently with the departure of CJ Hester; however, true freshman Jasper Parker, a four-star running back from Louisiana, is turning heads in fall camp. Parker is pushing for the RB3 job, which would be a positive thing if he's ready for it.

Michigan lucked out that LSU didn't recruit Parker harder, and in a few years time, the Tigers will come to regret that. Heck, maybe that will be this fall.
