Michigan labeled 'program to beat' for 5-star RB ranked No. 1 in the country

This would be an unreal get for the Wolverines.

It goes without saying, but the Michigan Wolverines need to make plenty of splashes with their 2026 class. The good news here is that head coach Sherrone Moore is working overtime and attracting some of the top talents around.

Earlier this week, fans read about 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell revealing he'll be taking an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor in March. He's not the only 5-star playmaker for people to keep a close eye on moving forward.

Recently, running back Savion Hiter announced his Top 4 of Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia. Previously, it felt like the Vols were the leaders for Hiter, but have things changed there? Per On3's Steve Wiltfong, the Wolverines are the team to beat:

Michigan is the team to beat for 5-star running back Savion Hiter

Yup, that's quite the update from Wiltfong and it's one that has people all over Michigan dreaming of a commitment. Should that happen in the future, it'd be a big win for Moore and his staff. Hiter is ranked five stars, the No. 1 RB in the country, No. 1 prospect from Virginia and No. 17 player overall per the 247Sports Composite.

Throughout his recruitment, Hiter has picked up 28 offers, but he indeed is down to four finalists. Michigan just made things official with the best prospect in the country, as quarterback Bryce Underwood was the headliner for UM, signing as the No. 1 player for the '25 class.

Looking ahead to next season, plenty of Michigan supporters are hopeful that Underwood can not only win the starting job as an 18 year old (birthday in August), but also that he'll go on to excel from Day 1.

Should Hiter end up being Michigan-bound, he'd suit up with Underwood in '26, which would be unreal. There's still plenty of time until Hiter makes a decision and finalizes his OV schedule, but the Wolverines are in a great spot to potentially land him.
