The starting quarterback job for the Michigan Wolverines is wide open for the 2025 season, but countless eyes are going to be on 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood during spring ball. Underwood graduated high school early and is already in Ann Arbor.
He did so because he wants to be the guy on campus from Day 1. That's right, he wants to do everything that is possible to win the starting job as a true freshman and make everyone realize that the hype is real. Should that happen, what can fans expect from the youngster in Year 1? If you ask 247Sports' J.D Pickell, the sky's the limit for this kid:
It's not "go see your therapist" level crazy to think Bryce Underwood could be an all-conference guy year 1 at Michiganhttps://t.co/2qyeUVv8xs pic.twitter.com/q66qNdjQC2

"I think the best-case scenario is he's a guy that ends up being an all-conference kind of quarterback for you," Pickell said about the Michigan QB. "To be real, I don't think that's all that much of a stretch."
Anyone else ready for Week 1 to get here? Pickell is leaving the door wide open for Underwood to be an All-Big Ten QB in '25, which would be absolutely unreal for the Wolverines. Are there going to be some ups and downs this fall if he wins the job, however? Of course.
Underwood is an elite prospect and he has all the tools to play on Sundays down the road. However, we have to remember that he's still only 17 years old and he won't be turning 18 until August. There's going to be a learning curve for him and fans can't expect him to be Tom Brady right away.
There are plenty of rival fanbases who are already claiming Underwood isn't going to live up to expectations and that he's the most overrated recruit from his class. Respectfully, we're going to disagree with that. Underwood is a winner too, having captured two state titles in high school, while breaking several Michigan passing records.
Across the board, he was ranked the No. 1 QB in the country and No. 1 player nationally overall. He's no question the real deal and people can't wait to see what he can get done at the college level. Underwood is the kind of signal-caller Michigan fans everywhere have been waiting on for quite some time. If you ask Pickell, the wait will have been worth it for what Underwood is about to accomplish soon enough.
