Michigan football hasn't had many freshman starting quarterbacks in the history of the program, but the next will be former five-star Bryce Underwood.
The Michigan native was ranked No. 1 overall in the 2025 recruiting class, and No. 1 among quarterbacks. He's 6-foot-4, 228 pounds, and recently said that college football fans have "never seen a freshman like me."
Underwood has that kind of swagger. If you're going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk.

How about that? https://t.co/PxxVPDE4RL
But during fall camp, it was clear to the coaching staff that he should be the starting quarterback for the Wolverines. It had nothing to do with his recruiting ranking or the fact that he will be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in all of college football this season.
Moore actually told the local media on Monday when he knew that Bryce Underwood would be the starting quarterback for Michigan football.
The exact moment when Bryce Underwood won Michigan football QB job
"About halfway through camp, (we) had a scrimmage. I think it was the first time we went into the stadium. He made a couple of throws, and I just looked at Chip, and he just nodded at me, and it's like yeah, I think this is the guy," Moore said.

Underwood shined in each of Michigan's scrimmages this fall. He was stellar during the spring and it's clear that he's the best quarterback on the roster. In fact, Moore essentially said that Underwood was better than any freshman he's ever seen, and Moore was J.J. McCarthy's offensive coordinator.
"Have I seen a quarterback like him,?" Moore said. "Uh...not that I can imagine. Not that I can think of."
Moore commented that there wasn't anything in the playbook Underwood couldn't do. It will be interesting to see what his presence means for the wide receivers, and the entire offense. The running game was limited last season, in part because it was easy for defenses to load the box.
Michigan football couldn't make them pay for it. That won't be the case in 2025. Underwood is run threat, too, and his journey as the Wolverines starting quarterback starts on Saturday.
