Michigan football's recruiting momentum is off the charts.

One day after beating out Notre Dame and Alabama for the commitment of four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington, an impressive recruiting win in its own right, Michigan football pulled off a bit of a surprise with the flip of Alabama four-star tight end commitment Colt Lumpris.

The 6-foot-6, 249-pound tight end from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, is ranked No. 289 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2027 class. Michigan football has been working to flip the tight end with "high upside", but on Saturday, after a strong run of recent commitments, Michigan landed its 10th in May.

It's also one of the most impressive, just based on the fact that Michigan not only beat Alabama head-to-head (again), but flipped a blue-chip from its class directly in the process.

Who said Kyle Whittingham couldn't recruit?

The dynamic tight end is the 15th commitment for Michigan in the 2027 class. He's the 11th blue-chip commitment, and it's another big-time pass catcher for Bryce Underwood. Here's part of the scouting report from 247 Sports:

"Should be viewed as an immensely high-ceiling pass catcher with an ideal blend of route-running savvy and contested catch ability. Could eventually draw looks from NFL scouts if he keeps progressing."

"Everything really ties together between the development factor, academics, the plan they have, and what they see in me," Lumpris said to 247 Sports.

The Wolverines have been on a recruiting heater for weeks now. It started in April when Michigan was able to flip a four-star quarterback from Illinois. Michigan then started things off strong in May with four-star offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey, one of the best players in the state of Michigan.

There was hope of flipping Lumpris after Freddie Whittingham visited him last month, but on Saturday, that hope became a reality for Michigan, which is adding playmakers left and right on both sides of the ball.

The Wolverines have landed a four-star QB, four-star WR, four-star TE, four-star RB, four-star OT, four-star EDGE, four-star DL, and multiple four-star defensive backs, just in the past month.

Michigan also has its sights set on some five-star targets. Joshua Dobson is one of them. Michigan is scheduled to get him on campus for an official visit after a trip to LSU was canceled. The Wolverines have also been gaining with elite wideout Dakota Guerrant, so there's a chance this 2027 class could get even better.
