Michigan doesn't need to get into a bidding war with North Carolina for Juke Harris

Michigan might need to spend big to land Juke Harris.

Dusty May wants Juke Harris to be on the Michigan basketball roster next season. But the national-championship-winning head coach doesn't need to overpay to make it happen.

Harris visited Michigan this weekend and was there for the Wolverines national champioship celebration, following the 69-63 win over UConn, delivering U-M its first title in college basketball in 37 years.

It was a great moment. If you go by what Harris told Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press while on his visit, Michigan basketball is the exact thing he's looking for.

The ACC's Most Improved Player in the 2025-26 season told Garcia that he wants to play for a "winning program."

There isn't a bigger winner in college basketball than Michigan. Some nice pieces are in place for next season, already. Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney have each re-signed. J.P. Estrella from Tennessee, one of the best low-post scorers and offensive rebounders in the portal, also committed to the Wolverines.

Not to mention Dusty May got the commitment of five-star Brandon McCoy, who stood out on both ends of the court for Team USA at the Nike Hoops Summit. The 6-foot-5 guard made an impression there just like McKenney did a year ago. He looks ready to play right away like McKenney was.

That's on top of two other top-50 signees in the 2026 class, plus the possible return of Morez Johnson, and the possible return of Oscar Goodman, a four-star from the 2024 class who is entering his third season with the program.

North Carolina is giving Harris a lot to think about. New head coach Mike Malone was scheduled to meet with him today, and there are rumors of a big offer.

Harris is a top-10 player in the portal. He's going to cost money, but Michigan doesn't need to get into a bidding war. It doesn't seem like it will either. May has an attractive spot in the starting lineup, where Yaxel played this season, and surely a big-time offer, money-wise.

If Harris still wants to play somewhere else, more power to him. There will be other options. Maybe not players who average 21.4 points per game in the ACC, like Harris, but Michigan can be selective, and as much as it wants Harris, it doesn't need to overpay for anyone.
