Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines simply are not content with a single National Championship. They are not wasting any time preparing for yet another title run next season. Whether it’s the return of point guard Elliot Cadeau or Trey McKenney, or the potential addition of former Wake Forest combo guard Juke Harris in the portal it’s clear the Maize and Blue are not just regrouping for 2026-2027, they are reloading.
That’s evident with the signing of 5-star recruit and the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2026 class Brandon McCoy, Jr. McCoy is part of Michigan’s impressive upcoming recruiting class, currently ranked second in the country by 247. He epically committed to the Wolverines on April 5, 2026, during the "Fab Five" alternate broadcast in a moment that may become a legendary one for this young man and the program itself. “I wanted to be part of a winning team that was unselfish, and I felt that was Michigan” McCoy said of his commitment, another good sign of his character and tenacity to win. At Sierra Canyon High School he averaged over 19 points per game, shot almost 62% from the field, and led his team to a state championship in California.
If you haven’t had a chance to catch him in action, fear not.
McCoy is set to showcase his talents for Michigan basketball fans and the entire country as he suits up for the USA Men’s Nike Hoop Summit on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland. The game will be broadcast live on Peacock at 10:00 PM ET. Trey McKenney, yet another freshman All-American and Michigan commit, also participated in this game back in 2025 and poured in 22 points on 7-9 shooting from the field.

Analysts at the game noted McKenney’s versatility and poise, and he went on to validate that praise this past year, averaging 10 points per game and garnering All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors before hitting arguably the most important shot in the Wolverines National Championship victory over Connecticut.
Brandon McCoy could have a key role for Michigan basketball in 2026-27
With an extremely strong backcourt shaping up for Michigan for the 2026-2027 season, it’s logical to assume that McCoy may take a similar college career arc as McKenney. He is a highly skilled scorer who can provide a jolt of offense off the bench and ensure the team’s second unit is firing on all cylinders. If he’s patient, he can learn a great deal from the older players in front of him, all the while developing his game to eventually have a huge role on a championship-contending team. That role will be extremely important next year as fellow guard LJ Cason will be redshirting due to a knee injury suffered this year, giving McCoy even more opportunities for immediate impact.
So check in on Saturday, you may get a unique glimpse of yet another player who can help the Wolverines cut down nets in the coming years.
