A good night for Michigan basketball, at least so far, just got better for the Wolverines after landing the commitment of five-star combo guard Brandon McCoy.

You don't usually see players commit during the Final Four. I can't ever remember it happening, but McCoy announced the commitment during the TNT Altcast with the Fab Five.

The rich just got richer

McCoy gives one of the most talented programs in college basketball another big-time talent. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound recruit is ranked 11th overall via the On3 Industry rankings. He's rated as a five-star-plus prospect and is quite possibly the biggest high school commitment of Dusty May's tenure with Michigan, although Trey McKenney is right there.

McCoy, a dynamic combo guard out of Sierra Canyon, California, is now the third top-50 recruit in the 2026 class for Michigan basketball and Dusty May.

While May will surely be pleased about the commitment. He likely knew it was coming, although he might not have known when it was going to be announced.

Regardless of the unique timing, McCoy is a massive pickup for the Wolverines. Elliot Cadeau said he was coming back. Trey McKenney has said that, too. If that comes to fruition, the Wolverines would have Cadeau, McCoy, and obviously other pieces, maybe even Aday Mara and Morez Johnson.

With the way those guys have been playing, it's hard to see them coming back. Yaxel Lendeborg is out of eligibility, so there he will be a huge amount of usage available.

And after watching Michigan dismantle Arizona during the first 20 minutes, it's hard to blame McCoy for committing when he did.
