Juke Harris, one of the top players available in the transfer portal, visited Michigan basketball on Saturday, during the Wolverines national championship parade.
For a player who told Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press that he wants to play for a "winning program", it feels like Michigan would be a great fit, just after winning the national title to wrap up a 37-3 season.
Michigan is expected to contend for another national championship, too. Dusty May is already focused on reaching the Final Four in Detroit next season, and Harris, a 6-foot-7 combo guard who averaged 21.4 points per game last season for Wake Forest, could be a key part of that plan.
Michigan was the clear favorite going into this visit. Jamie Shaw of On3 projected Harris to the Wolverines. Yet, it's not a done deal, even after Harris was in Ann Arbor.
North Carolina making a push for Juke Harris
According to Inside Carolina, new Tar Heels head coach Michael Malone, who was just hired away from the Denver Nuggets, is going to get a meeting with Harris. The report doesn't say when, but I'm assuming that will happen on Sunday or Monday. It also doesn't say if that meeting will be in-person.
Harris is ranked sixth overall among players in the transfer portal via 247 Sports. He would be a great replacement for Yaxel Lendeborg. He's a different player. Harris shot 33 percent from 3-point range on 7.5 attempts per game. He also finished fourth in the ACC in defensive rebounds per game as he earned second-team All-ACC and won the league's Most Improved Player award.
The Wake Forest transfer wouldn't need to shoot as much, but a lineup with Trey McKenney and Elliot Cadeau would be deadly. J.P. Estrella has also committed, so Harris and Morez Johnson are the missing pieces in terms of constructing an elite starting lineup.
It felt like Michigan was the heavy favorite for Harris. We'll see if Malone and the Tar Heels can change that.
