Michigan football is on a recruiting heater right now. It continued on Thursday with the surprise commitment of elite defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive lineman is ranked 97th overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Out of Houston, Texas, Muhammad is more than just a football player, he's a dynamic three-sport athlete.
In addition to being dominant on the gridiron, Muhammad is a double-digit scorer and rebounder on the basketball court, in addition to being a college-level shot putter, who had a 47-foot throw as a true freshman.
The kid can also get up and dunk, which isn't something you normally see from a dude that's nearly 300 pounds.

Michigan football lands another elite talent as recruiting momentum builds
Muhammad is one of the top defensive linemen in the country. Larry Black started recruiting him at Vanderbilt, then continued to build that relationship once he was hired by Michigan football.
The commitment on Thursday came out of nowhere. A recent visit locked things down for the Wolverines, despite strong pushes from Notre Dame and Miami.
Muhammad's commitment is the latest in a strong run of commitments. It started on April 14 with the pledge of four-star QB Kamden Lopati and hasn't stopped. The Wolverines have landed Quentin Burrell (No. 86 overall), Jayce Brewer (No. 342), Jakary Lipsey (No. 115), and now Muhammad, who is 97th overall.
Michigan has won many of these battles head-to-head with Notre Dame. Two more 2027 recruits, Tyson Robinson, a four-star running back, and Tavares Harrington, a four-star defensive back, have also been trending with projections to commit to the Wolverines.
So as impressive as it was to land Muhammad, a freakish athlete for someone that size, the good times for Michigan football recruiting seem far from over.
