The recruitment of Monsanna Torbert keeps getting more and more interesting.
Michigan football started to move near the top after the four-star cornerback from Cincinnati decommited from the Hoosiers.
However, Ohio State also started making a strong push. The Buckeyes hosted the 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback who is ranked No. 102 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Following an official visit to Ohio State last weekend, the Buckeyes started trending with expert projections. There was some concern that Torbert would make it to Ann Arbor for his official visit.
That concern was alleviated on Friday when Torbert arrived on campus for his official visit. That was a positive for the Wolverines. That will give them the chance to host the final visit, unless this recruitment extends into the fall, but it's hard to see that happening.
ACC schools joins the mix for Michigan football cornerback target
Steve Wiltfong, a top recruiting expert for Rivals, reported that a new ACC school has entered the chat (Louisville), making this a three-way battle between the Buckeyes, Wolverines and Cardinals.
Louisville offered back in March, 10 days after Michigan football. Ohio State got in the mix on April 6th. There aren't any crystal ball projections yet, but the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine has Ohio State as the heavy favorite.
That could be changing. It's hard to say if that gives the Wolverines a better shot of landing Torbert. Joshua Dobson is also on the board at cornerback, although, he is expected to announce a commitment on July 1.
If the Wolverines miss on Dobson or know they are going to miss on Dobson, they can focus their resources on Torbert, another stellar man-to-man defender just like Dobson. Torbert plays quarterback on offense, but also added three interceptions and pass breakups on defense.
His 247 Sports scouting report suggests he could even be a slot receiver. Regardless of the position, he's a player Kyle Whitingham clearly wants in the program.
Defensive back makes the most sense. That's where the biggest need is for the Wolverines in the 2027 class, with just one true cornerback, Darius Johnson, committed.
Larry Moon, another four-star cornerback, who had a really impressive offer sheet, committed to Georgia Tech on Thursday. He was supposed to be in Ann Arbor for an official visit, but shut down his recruitment instead.
Another ACC school is trying to swoop in on another potential Michigan commitment, but at least Torbert is on campus for Victors Weekend, which will give the Wolverines a fighting chance to land the blue-chip defensive back's commitment.
