Michigan football is expected to get some good news on Thursday night. Four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford has been projected to commit to the Wolverines.
That would be the second commitment to come out of Victors Weekend for the Wolverines, who also picked up a three-star tight end Christian Hanshaw last week, who is a three-star prospect out of American Fork, Utah.
Hanshaw is ranked No. 518 overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings. That's another quality addition to this class, but there were other two top targets on campus last weekend, who are starting to trend away from the Wolverines.
Michigan gets mixed results from Victors Weekend
Of course, the biggest news to come out of Victors Weekend were the expert projections for Michigan football to beat Ohio State in the recruitment of four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert.
Torbert is an elite cornerback from Ohio. The Wolverines still need to close there; however, it seems as though things are trending the wrong way with Damani Warren, a three-star wideout who moved up the board after Dakota Guerrant committed to Oregon.
Warren was basically the last target left at wide receiver. Now, he is trending to Texas A&M, thanks to some new predictions for the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound receiver out of Las Vegas is ranked No. 412 overall via the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Warren would have been a nice backup option after missing on Guerrant, who the Wolverines will keep recruiting, especially if the team proves it is willing to throw the football this fall.
Regardless, Texas A&M has a 97 percent chance to land the three-star recruit, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Another trend that isn't all that surprising is that three-star quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher has started trending to Oregon State. The Wolverines have been pushing to land the dual-threat quarterback in a quest to add even more long-term depth to the quarterback room.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is teammates with Warren. He's also ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and 247 Sports. There is certainly an easier path to the starting job with Oregon State, plus there isn't much appeal to be the second quarterback in a recruiting class. That's setting yourself up to transfer.
It seems like the Wolverines are seeking another linebacker, maybe one beyond Fredderick, plus another corner, hopefully Torbert or five-star Joshua Dobson. There are 18 commitments already, though, and I wouldn't expect the class to grow beyond a few more.
