We talked earlier this week about how Michigan football is being aggressive in pursuing flips. The Wolverines are pushing to flip multiple SEC commitments and offered another potential flip on Thursday in four-star Carson Lawrence.

The 6-foot-2, 194-pound defensive back out of Chattanooga, Tennessee is ranked No. 329 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2025 class. He's also ranked as the ninth-best player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 29 safety.

The four-star prospect has been committed to Vanderbilt since last June. The Commodores did their work early, but Michigan football joined an offer this that's pretty impressive. Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miami, Duke, Virginia Tech, NC State, West Virginia, and Georgia Tech are among the offers.

Michigan football offer makes an impact

However, the offer by Michigan football seems to have changed the dynamic of this recruitment. Sam Spiegelman of Rivals reported that the offer has, "Shaken things up a bit." Josh Henschke, who runs the Maize and Blue Review, also posted on X that "this one cold heat up in a hurry."

I know some Michigan football fans won't be overly excited about flipping a kid from Vanderbilt, or even South Carolina, although the Wolverines are pushing to flip a commitment ranked in the top 100 overall of the 2025 composite rankings.

The Wolverines have had a ton of success finding players that fit their program and their culture. Sherrone Moore talked about it recently. But Michigan football isn't just about rankings. It wants to "dip deep" and a guy committed to Vanderbilt over other programs like Tennessee feels like a good fit.

Beyond that, if Michigan football can flip Lawrence, it would add another blue-chip to the class and even though the Wolverines have just five commitments, they are 5/5 on landing blue-chip recruits, giving them a perfect blue-chip ratio at the moment.
