Bowl projections have Michigan football missing the 12-team playoff
The Michigan football program will begin the defense of its national championship in two weeks. With an unsettled quarterback situation, the Wolverines still feel like a wildcard in the playoff race.
However, Michigan football might have the best defense in college football next season. I have zero doubt that the offensive line will be elite once again. Michigan lost six starters, but Sherrone Moore has talked up this group and I feel like it will be the best O-line in the Big Ten.
Outside of that, you've got Donovan Edwards ready for a breakout season, plus a group of wide receivers, led by Tyler Morris, who are much better than expected.
Still, it comes down to the quarterback competition. Many see Alex Orji starting the first game for Michigan football but Davis Warren is making a push. Don't count out Jack Tuttle either.

But until we see what the quarterbacks look like, it's hard to predict how good Michigan football will be this season. I'm inclined to believe that Orji can be better than people expect. He doesn't have to be Jalen Milroe from last season but if he gets anywhere close, Michigan could win the Big Ten again.
Most pundits still expect Michigan football to make the 12-team playoff. Yet, a new bowl projection from CBS Sports has the Wolverines missing the 12-team playoff. Instead, U-M is projected to play Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl.
Michigan played in the Citrus Bowl in 1998, one season after winning the national title, so it's possible, but that would be a disappointing season. Anything other than a playoff berth would be a disappointment but soon we can't stop worrying about predictions and watch actual football.
