Davis Warren making a move in Michigan football QB competition

Davis Warren has been getting more snaps with the No. 1 offense for Michigan football at quarterback.

We are just over two weeks away from the first Michigan football game of the season and it doesn't like sound like Sherrone Moore is close to naming a starting quarterback.

Moore said that all of them have played well, but that they were still competing. He could just be saying that but none of the insider reports have suggested anything different.

Many have assumed that Alex Orji will start and it makes sense. He's got the most upside. Part of that is due to his athletic ability. He's a true dual-threat and Michigan football can use him as a runner, which the other quarterbacks don't offer.

But Orji has to throw the ball well, otherwise he'll remain just a weapon for the running game, sort of like he was at the end of last season.

Jack Tuttle is another in the mix and Jadyn Davis has been playing well too. Tuttle has been limited and it sounds like the competition has narrowed to Orji or Davis Warren, at least for now. Warren, the former walk-on, stood out in the spring game and is getting reps with the No. 1 offense according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine.

My guess is that Orji and Warren both play against Fresno State. I still think Orji will get the first start but starting the second will depend on how they each perform in the first.

Michigan football used that tactic in 2022. This is a little different because nobody has started a game before in this battle but at this point, don't count out Warren, or Orji, or even Tuttle.

It still feels wide open and like a starter won't be named until after the season starts.
