Michigan football QBs 'have all been really good' offering little clarity on starter

Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore met the media on Tuesday but didn't offer much clarity on the QB competition.

Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore met with reporters on Tuesday and while many will be focused on what he said about the NCAA investigation and his text messages, Moore also dropped some important tidbits regarding the Wolverines.

One position he didn't offer much insight into is quarterback. Moore certainly talked about the quarterbacks but didn't shed any light on who could be starting for Michigan football in the season opener against Fresno State.

Michigan football starting QB update

"They've all been really good," Moore said via Alejandro Zuniga of The Michigan Insider. "They've had their days that one guy's been good, one guy's been really good, one guy's been better, so not a front runner. Really kind of all even playing right now, and we'll see how we go into this week, next week, and then game week."

It feels like there is a strong chance that the quarterback competition bleeds into the regular season just like it did in 2022 for the Michigan Wolverines. Cade McNamara started the first game that season before J.J. McCarthy started the second and took over the job for good.

My hope has always been that Alex Orji grabs the bull by the horns, wins the job, and never looks back. Since he's a true dual-threat, he could be the best overall weapon if he can find a way to be accurate and manage the offense.

McCarthy and McNamara were each elite at protecting the ball from 2021-2023 and that's going to be the key attribute for whoever is the Michigan football starting quarterback.

Moore did say that Jack Tuttle hadn't been limited in camp. There had been talk that he was still dealing with an injury. The Michigan football head coach also talked up freshman quarterback Jadyn Davis, so maybe he's closer to playing than fans expected.

My money is still on Alex Orji to start game one for Michigan football, but as of right now, at least according to Moore, the race is still wide open.
