WR Tyler Morris emerging for Michigan football after 'phenomenal camp'

Michigan football might have found its go-to-guy at wide receiver in Tyler Morris.

Every Michigan football fan remembers the Tyler Morris touchdown catch in the Rose Bowl. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound sophomore caught a crossing route against Alabama and turned it into a touchdown, beating a team of SEC defenders to the pylon.

Morris started four games last season for Michigan football and thanks to that 38-yard touchdown reception in the Rose Bowl, he finished with 13 receptions for 197 yards.

The former top-100 recruit dealt with a serious knee injury during his senior season of high school. That dropped his recruiting ranking a bit, but the one-time teammate of J.J. McCarthy, in high school, has been biding his time with the Wolverines and now, he's ready to be the guy.

Morris, Semaj Morgan, and Fredrick Moore are the top returning receivers from last season. Morgan also played a key role for the Wolverines in the slot last season and should also have an expanded role. But the Michigan football sophomore was also talking up Morris recently.

“The play against Alabama … he’s way crazier than that,” Morgan said via The Wolverine.

Ron Bellamy, the Michigan football wide receivers coach, also compared Morris to Ronnie Bell and not just because Morris is now wearing the No. 8, like Bell used to.

“I think Tyler had an opportunity to play with Ronnie for a year and model a lot of things that he does off Ronnie’s game,” Bellamy said to The Wolverine. “The movement skills, in and out of breaks, his ability to go track the ball, high-point it. His ability in the run game … he shows up. He’s physical; you can move him around, and he’s pretty much a cerebral player. He could be on that [Bell] level.”

I still believe that Colston Loveland will lead Michigan football in receptions, yards, and touchdowns this season, but Tyler Morris is making me re-think that a little, and maybe, just maybe, this Michigan pass offense will be more dynamic than expected.
