Signs point to Michigan football offensive line being elite again
One of the reasons Michigan football has dominated the Big Ten and lost just three games over the past three seasons is the offensive line.
It's not fancy but as former head coach Jim Harbaugh said during the NFL draft, the offensive line is a weapon and if you know how to use it, it works as well as any.
You need playmakers. Michigan football wouldn't have won the national championship without guys like J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, and Will Johnson. You need superstar players but you also need to be solid in the trenches and that's one thing Michigan football fans don't need to worry about going into the 2024 season.
Michigan football offensive line will be "violent" and elite
We all know the defensive line is going to be dominant. Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant are as good as any defensive tackle duo in the country and the EDGE tandem is right there too.
So when Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said this week that the offensive line "was giving those guys (D-line) a run for their money" my ears perked up.
I expected the offensive line to be good. Giovanni El-Hadi is going to be All-Big Ten. Greg Crippen is a stud and Josh Priebe has already earned All-Big Ten honors. Myles Hinton will be just fine at left tackle and there is a healthy competition to be the right tackle.
But there is depth everywhere. Raheem Anderson is good enough to start and so is Jeff Persi and now Evan Link, who is also battling to play right tackle. Moore essentially promised that Michigan football will always be good in the trenches.
"I know that as long as I'm here, we're going to be good up front. We're going to be violent. We're going to be physical. We're going to be tough, relentless, all the things you want. We have a couple guys that are cementing themselves at ones, but not a whole first group yet."
I don't doubt any of that and that's one reason I'm confident that this Michigan football team can make another run at the Big Ten championship.
