Not all three-star recruits are the same. One three-star recruit in the 2027 class who should definitely be ranked higher than he is is Buford, Georgia, linebacker Ethan Hauser.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker is ranked No. 787 overall and 64th among linebackers, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Michigan football offered back in February, soon after the hire of new head coach Kyle Whittingham.
The recruitment of Hauser has started to take off. Since the time that Michigan offered, seven power-4 teams have offered, most of them coming from the SEC.
Texas and Texas A&M have each offered in 2026. Vanderbilt and Mississippi State offered, too. Teams like Georgia, USC, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida State, and others entered the mix last season, but on Sunday, the "priority" recruit for Michigan football, according to Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine, released his top five, which includes Michigan, Missouri. Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Tennessee.
Michigan will need to beat out SEC foes for another blue-chip commitment in 2027
Despite the lower ranking, Hauser doesn't have the offer list of a low-ranking three-star recruit. Some of the top programs from the SEC and the Big Ten have offered. Alex Whittingham has been putting in the effort and Michigan football has an official visit secured for June 19th.
That's a day that will have a lot of "priority" recruits on campus for the Wolverines, with Hauser being among them. Missouri and Vanderbilt have official visits scheduled right now, along with Florida State and Michigan. The Seminoles were eliminated, though. Texas A&M and Tennessee also made the top five, but it feels like the Wolverines are close to the top three at the moment.
Michigan has seven commitments in the 2027 recruiting class. The Wolverines have landed a trio of blue-chip commitments in the past month, with four-star EDGE Jayce Brewer being the latest.
