Michigan football is hoping to come out of Wednesday with at least one elite cornerback commitment.
Five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, along with four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert, will announce their college commitments on Wednesday.
Dobson is reportedly considering Michigan football, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. The Gamecocks have grabbed the momentum late, despite a strong push from the Wolverines.
It feels like Dobson is trending away. However, that could be a positive sign in the recruitment of Torbert, who is ranked 97th overall via the Rivals Industry Rankings out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The 5-foot-10 cornerback is one of the best man-to-man cover guys in the 2027 class. He was committed to Indiana at one point, but after that decommitment, Michigan football and Ohio State emerged as the top contenders.
Ohio State was in the driver's seat after it hosted Torbert for an official visit. Yet, the four-star prospect was on campus for Victors Weekend, and Michigan knocked it out of the park.

It was announced on Tuesday that Torbert would announce his commitment on Wednesday night at 5 PM EST. The Wolverines had picked up a couple of expert projections soon after his visit from Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine, as well as Allen Trieu of Rivals.

Michigan football trending to beat Ohio State for Monsanna Torbert
Trieu is one of the most respected recruiting reporters in the Midwest. So that prediction carries a lot of weight. Not as much as Steve Wiltfong, though, who dropped a Fong Bomb in favor of Kyle Whittingham's program late Tuesday night, projecting the Wolverines to beat out Ohio State in order to land Torbert.
This would be a significant recruiting win. I was pessimistic going into it, because Michigan hasn't won many head-to-head battles over Ohio State, especially for recruits from Ohio, in recent years. Jordan Marshall was the latest example. Torbert is another one.
Not only did Michigan land a blue-chip from Ohio, it also fills a big need. The Wolverines have two solid cornerback commitments in Blake Jenkins and Darius Johnson. They are each four-star recruits, but landing Torbert, who is 97th overall according to Rivals, and No. 106 when it comes to the 247 Sports composite rankings, is the cherry on top.
Torbert plays quarterback, too. He accounted for over 2,000 yards on offense last season, plus 40 tackles, three interceptions, and three pass breakups on defense.
Even an Ohio State insider for Rivals flipped his pick to Michigan football, so it feels like Whittingham is about to enjoy one of his biggest recruiting wins so far in Ann Arbor.
