Michigan football's final official visit weekend of June just got a little bit more interesting as a three-star linebacker committed to UCLA will be on campus.

Cain Brackney, out of Bixby, Oklahoma, is the latest name to emerge on the Wolverines 2027 recruiting board. Ranked No. 1,168 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Despite the low ranking, Brackney has been rising up boards in the last few months. Michigan football offered back in March. UCLA offered on April 1st, and was able to lock down a commitment a few weeks later on April 24th.

Since then, other programs have been pushing for the productive linebacker. Dating back to March, Michigan, SMU, Tulsa, West Virginia, Arkansas, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Indiana have offered. The Hoosiers hosted Brackney for an official visit last weekend, according to his 247 Sports profile.

Looking at his ranking, it feels like it doesn't exactly do Brackney justice. He was credited with 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and an interception he returned 68 yards for a touchdown.

The Wolverines have a clear need at the position. They have shown interest in flipping linebackers from some other programs, but it hasn't come to fruition.

Michigan football could fill a need with three-star LB

Michigan has some talented linebackers on its roster, although they are relatively young. However, the 2026 and 2027 classes have left a lot to be desired in terms of recruiting. Landing Brackney wouldn't cease the criticism of some fans, especially those who just look at the rankings, but it would be a solid development piece where one is needed.

Indiana is certainly a program that has proven it has an eye for talent, and Brackney feels like the classic late bloomer who has a chance to make a move up the rankings before signing day.

Even though there haven't been any expert predictions for a flip, the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Michigan football a 69-percent chance to flip the linebacker from the Sooner state, which isn't a place the Wolverines recruit often.

Kyle Whittingham has landed a class with 16 commitments to this point. 12 of them are blue-chip prospects, and another blue-chipper has set a decision date with Michigan trending as the favorite.

The Wolverines have also been making headway with five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. A recent official visit should have Michigan fans feeling hopeful. The visit of Brackney is another that could turn into a commitment, or a flip from the UCLA Bruins.
