There are now three Michigan football commitments, all of them ranked in the top 200, who are holding off on signing their letters of intent in the 2026 class.

It started to go haywire for Michigan on Early National Signing Day when four-star wideout Zion Robinson said on social media that he was putting off signing with Michigan football.

We knew that South Carolina was pushing for top-100 EDGE Julian Walker. It sounded like he was set to sign with the Wolverines, but now, he won't sign until Thursday, with South Carolina still doing what it can to flip him. It should be noted that Walker's dad is an assistant strength coach for the Gamecocks.

Travis Johnson is re-considering commitment, too

Michigan football needs wide receivers. It has Andrew Marsh, but after that, there is a glaring amount of blue-chip talent. Zion Robinson (No. 182 overall) was going to address that. So was Travis Johnson, a four-star wideout from Virginia. The 6-foot-3 receiver is ranked No. 107 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

According to The Wolverine, Virginia Tech is pushing to keep the blue-chip wide receiver in his home state. James Franklin has been hot on the trail since becoming the Hokies' head coach.

As far as Michigan is concerned, it has to do everything possible to keep Robinson and Johnson. Getting two wideouts ranked in the top 182 was a huge boon. Johnson could easily have a freshman season like Andrew Marsh's.

That is, if Michigan gets him to sign that letter of intent. If not, and others don't either, Early Signing Day would be a disaster for the Wolverines.

UPDATE: Travis Johnson has signed with Michigan. Julian Walker is expected to sign on Thursday. Robinson hasn't said when he will sign, but each of these recruitments feels up in the air. The good news is that Michigan held on to Johnson and is expected to sign five-star Savion Hiter on Thursday morning. He was one of three who didn't sign on Wednesday.
