Michigan football target Jordan Shipp is going to be announcing his commitment on Sunday but it doesn’t appear to be good news for the Wolverines.

For quite some time, Michigan football fans have been expecting the Wolverines to land the commitment of wideout Jordan Shipp, a teammate of quarterback commitment Jadyn Davis.

The Wolverines already have one teammate of Davis’s in the 2024 class in Channing Goodwin, a three-star wide receiver also from Providence Day in North Carolina.

Shipp has never seemed like a lock though. North Carolina and North Carolina State have both made strong pushes to try and keep the blue-chip wideout home in the Tar Heel state.

Shipp is 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, and checks in as the No. 425 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Additionally, he’s ranked 13th in the state of North Carolina and 64th among wideouts.

The wideout was very productive last season with 1,088 yards and 14 touchdown receptions. He has 22 touchdown receptions for his career. But it doesn’t look like he will be adding to that production with Michigan football at least.

That’s because Shipp has started trending to North Carolina just ahead of his Sunday decision. A number of crystal ball projections came in on Saturday in favor of the Tar Heels including Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider.

The Wolverines hosted Shipp for an official visit on the first June official visit weekend. However, North Carolina got the final visit and it appears Mack Brown and the Tar Heels will get the last laugh too.

What’s next for Michigan football?

In terms of the 2024 class, it’s not a death blow or anything. Michigan football does have a pair of wideouts committed. Gatlin Bair is another strong possibility. The Wolverines have a 76-percent chance to land his commitment via the On3 prediction machine.

The issue is that Bair is more of a 2026 recruit since he’ll be taking a Mormon mission for the next two years after high school and likely won’t join any program until 2026.

Bair is an incredible talent, so Michigan football would be right to wait for him. He runs the 100-meter dash in 10.15. But we’ll find out if the Wolverines feel good about just taking two wideouts that would be able to enroll next season.

However, in terms of Shipp’s announcement, it would be a surprise if it wasn’t North Carolina at this point.
