One question facing the Michigan football coaching staff was how would it attack the 2027 recruiting class?

Certainly, Kyle Whittingham has a ton of experience recruiting on the West Coast. The Wolverines have targeted some players in California, and even in Utah, as they usually do, but there have been some midwestern targets, too, especially in the Buckeye State.

That doesn't mean Michigan football is ignoring the state of Michigan. The Wolverines have invested plenty of energy on in-state recruiting, but they are also going into the state of Ohio, which is area where the Wolverines have done well historically.

Earlier this week, Michigan football offered four-star safety Tristin Hughes, a former Syracuse commitment. That offered vaulted the Wolverines near the top of his list.

However, Michigan is targeting another blue-chip prospect in the state of Ohio, one that might be a tougher pull because he's committed to Indiana.

The player in question is Monsanna Torbert.

The 5-foot-10, 158-pounder is a dynamic athlete. He's listed as an athlete by 247 Sports. He could be a cornerback or a wide receiver, but, judging from the fact that the offer was made by cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford, cornerback is a safe bet.

Torbert committed to Indiana back in February. So the commitment is relatively new. That could allow Michigan to get into the mix. The Wolverines need to get Torbert on campus, probably in the spring, and then once again in the summer for an official visit.

Even if the Wolveriners don't flip his commitment, it's good to see some offers going in the state of Ohio.
