Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham decided to change things up in the personnel/recruiting department earlier this week, as general manager Sean Magee was not retained.

Magee was a big part of building the current roster. Yet, it wasn't clear that he would be back in the future. Whittingham decided to move on, and according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, a replacement is already in the works.

Zenitz reports that Whittingham has set his sights on Dave Peloquin, who is currently the general managers agency Athletes First, but previously worked on the Notre Dame staff for 21 years.

Another "big-time hire" by Kyle Whittingham

Brice Marich, who covers recruiting for The Michigan Insider, posted that Peloquin would be a "big-time hire."

There are plenty of reasons for that. Peloquin worked on the Notre Dame staff as the director of player personnel before that role even existed. He even worked with some of the current Michigan assistants while they were on the staff at Notre Dame, including recently hired Larry Black.

Many assumed that Whittingham would target his former Utah GM, Robert Blechen, who could still be hired in another capacity. However, the hiring of Peloquin, who has a deep understanding of NIL, along with basic football evaluation, might be the perfect hire for this era of roster building.

Either way, it's good to see Whittingham act quickly. The quality of the staff that he's put together on the field was impressive. The hiring of Peloquin, if it becomes official, would be a great start to building a championship-level staff in the off-field departments, which hasn't been the case.

Magee was great. But he needed more resources. Hopefully, Peloquin gets them, because he will know exactly what to do with them in this new era of college football.
