The new Michigan football coaching staff is starting to settle in on the recruiting trail. Some new offers have been going out, and one of those includes a four-star defensive back Tristin Hughes.
Hughes is 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. He's also ranked as the 13th-best player in the state of Ohio for the 2027 class, as well as No. 346 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Out of Rocky River, Ohio, Hughes has 18 offers total. Michigan football offered on Monday, and the former Syracuse commitment has come away impressed. According to a post on X from Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, "Michigan is at the top."
Michigan football target a four-star defensive back from Ohio
Michigan football has always recruited the state of Ohio well, at least it has during the good times. It's been more difficult in recent years, but the Wolverines have been able to get some studs and some diamonds in the rough, such as Rod Moore. Jordan Marshall is another name that comes to mind.
Hughes doesn't have an Ohio State offer currently. He does have 11 Power-4 offers total. That includes the recent offer from Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines.
Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Purdue are the other Big Ten teams to offer. Kentucky is another team to watch. Hughes has an official visit scheduled with the Wildcats. Purdue is also listed as "warm" via his 247 Sports profile.
Louisville, Purdue, and Syracuse also have visits scheduled, but to be frank, this is a recruitment Michigan football should win, and so far, it feels like things are trending in that direction.
