Michigan football's two-month recruiting heater continued on Thursday night, the Wolverines reeled in another blue-chip prospect in the secondary.

Four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins, out of Katy, Texas, was the latest 2027 recruit to commit to Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines. That's 16 overall. 12 of them are blue-chip prospects, including Jenkins, who is a top-flight man-cover corner, according to his 247 Sports profile.

Jenkins is ranked No. 260 overall in the 2027 class, via the Rivals Industry Rankings. Michigan football was able to beat out Texas, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Houston, and SMU for this commitment.

During a visit this spring, Jenkins highlighted a connection with a Michigan football fan, who was in Ann Arbor for the Special Olympics, which drove home the point about how much the program means to the fans who follow it.

Michgan football fan makes an impact on 2027 commitment

"Honestly, one of the biggest things that stood out to me was just the support from the fan base. When we were touring the stadium, there was a Special Olympics event going on, and a kid came over and wanted to take a picture with me. That kind of caught me off guard, but it meant a lot. Just being able to take that moment with him, seeing how much it meant to him, it really showed me how much the people there support their players. That stuck with me," Jenkins told Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider.

Jenkins said that support stuck with him. Obviously, there were plenty of on-field reasons to choose Michigan football, too. Jay Hill, the new defensive coordinator, is a defensive mastermind, especially when it comes to the secondary, No program had more interceptions the past two seasons than the BYU secondary coordinated by Hill.

Billy Tucker, a college scout for ESPN, also praised the commitment for the Wolverines, calling Jenkins "a good pickup."

"Tested well this spring at the Rivals Camp Series and is a sticky and competitive player in coverage," Tucker said of Jenkins on X.

Landing Jenkins was yet another reminder of how well Kyle Whittingham's staff can close out commitments. It has been impressive to watch over the past two months. There is still work to do in the 2027 class, especially with some important official visits looming, but Michigan football fans should be highly impressed with the work of Whittingham on the recruiting trail.

This 2027 class is elite, and Jenkins story is a reminder of how this program recruits itself.
