Elite Michigan WR commitment offers eye-opening quote on Kyle Whittingham's impact

One of the biggest recruiting wins for Michigan football this spring was Quentin Burrell, who explained why this week.

One of the biggest commitments for Michigan football in the past month, was when the Wolverines landed a four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell out of Chicago.

Not only did the Wolverines go into the backyard of Notre Dame to land the 6-foot-2, 185-pound pass catcher, who ranks in the top 100 overall, but they were able to turn the recruitment around quickly this spring after it felt like Notre Dame was the clear leader.

By the end of it, it was hard to know how hard Notre Dame was even pushing. Michigan football took control of that recruitment, just like it has many others this spring.

Burrell is just one of many blue-chip commitments this spring. Tavares Harrington, Jakari Lipsey, Xavier Muhammad, Kamden Lopati and others have chosen Michigan, which didn't seem like a legitimate option just a few months ago.

The reason for that? Kyle Whittingham.

We have heard recruits praise the Michigan football head coach before, but Burrell was blunt about the dramatic change the program has undergone when talking to Allen Trieu of Rivals, calling Michigan a "completely changed program."

Whittingham keeps impressing and winning on the recruiting trail

Five-star Joshua Dobson has also been impressed with Whittingham. One of the top priorities in the 2027 class for the Wolverines offered a similar sentiment to Burrell, saying that Whittingham was going to win with Michigan.

You could tell that Dobson meant reaching the playoff kind of winning, maybe even beyond that. Burrell, just like Dobson, is fully sold on Whittingham. He proved that with his commitment earlier this spring. Now, he is trying to recruit for the Wolverines, who have surged into the top 10 of the 2027 team recruiting rankings, according to 247 Sports.

The Wolverines are also trying to land five-star wideout Dakota Guerrant, the No. 1 in-state recruit for the 2027 class. Oregon is leading his recruitment, just like Notre Dame was leading with Burrell.

Michigan has been trending up with just about everyone. Whittingham and the staff he has built are the reason why. Whether it was the on-field coaches like Larry Black or Micah Simon making a huge impact on the recruiting trail, or Jim Harding, or building an elite recruiting department with Dave Peloquin as the general manager, even bringing back Ron Bellamy to solidy in-state recruiting.

Whittingham has an answer for every question. It's obvious to recruits the way the program is trending, which is why so many like Burrell have decied to hop on board.
