Michigan football fans got good news on Saturday, thanks to the commitment of one of the top players in the state in the 2027 recruiting class.
The Wolverines started trending for a trio of recruits earlier this week, with two of those being in-state prospects, and one O-line target, Jakari Lipsey.
On Saturday morning, Michigan O-line coach Jim Harding posted a graphic with the words, "bleed blue," teasing a commitment. Not long after, Lipsey went public in his pledge to the Wolverines, in one of the biggest, if not the biggest, recruiting win of Kyle Whittingham's young tenure.
Harding is known as a dynamic recruiter. He just had two players from Utah, whom he coached last season, drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft. Now, he's kept one of the best players in Michigan at home to play for U-M.
Jakari Lipsey's commitment is big for Michigan football
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle has received multiple expert projections to Michigan football recently. He's ranked 104th overall, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Lipsey is ranked third in the state of Michigan among 2027 recruits. He visited Ohio State and had an official visit set up with LSU. There were plenty of big-time options on the table. But, Harding deserves all the credit in the world for winning this recruitment.
Lipsey is described as "raw" according to his Rivals scouting report. That makes him perfect for Harding. He's a proven developer of talent and it wouldn't be shocking at all to see him develop Lipsey into an NFL player.
