Michigan football is starting to generate some momentum on the recruiting trail in the 2027 class under new head coach Kyle Whittingham.

The new head coach has put together an elite front office, with another big-time hire this week, and the new coaching staff is already starting to find its footing on the trail.

Michigan isn't closing in on any commitments yet. But they are starting to build momentum with key targets. Some have even scheduled multiple visits.

One of the top targets in the entire 2027 recruiting class for the Wolverines is four-star offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey. Out of Kalamazoo, Michigan, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive tackle is ranked No. 102 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's ranked 66th overall by 247 Sports' internal rankings.

Where Michigan stands with elite in-state recruit Jakari Lipsey

Michigan football first offered under the previous staff last September. The talented offensive tackle has been on campus for one unofficial visit. He's been offered by most of the Big Ten programs.

Two that emerged as threats are Minnesota and Wisconsin. Each of those programs have official visit schedule. Now, you can add Michigan football and LSU to the schedule. according to Allen Trieu of On3. You have to think that the Wolverines are going to be tough to beat in this recruitment.

LSU will make it interesting on the NIL side of things. If that becomes a major factor, that probaby eliminates Minnesota and Wisconsin anyway.

The saying is that the best players from Michigan go to Michigan. We'll see if that happens with Jakari Lipsey.
