Michigan Football: 3 Candidates to be Wolverines next commitment
Kamonte Grimes, 3-star athlete
A name that may not have been on this list a month ago or so is that of three-star athlete Kamonte Grimes out of Florida. Grimes is ranked 516th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings and is listed as the 28th best athlete.
Recently, he reported being 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds. As we have documented, Michigan football has spoken to him about playing a role similar to that of Jabrill Peppers, meaning some corner, safety and Viper. Grimes wants to play receiver, so that could be an option at some point too.
The Wolverines really like him at corner and it’s not surprising. They love long defensive backs. But with his size, Grimes seems more like a safety down the road or at least some sort of hybrid defender.
Michigan is pushing for other safeties and corners, but Grimes could help fill a need at each position and despite U-M being the only team asking him to play defense, he’s starting to trend to Michigan.
Unlike the others on the list, Grimes has talked about committing down the road, but that was really before the Wolverines became the favorite.
I predicted him to be part of the 2021 class recently and believe he will be. Only now, it seems at least possible his commitment could come before his senior season starts and not after it.
