3-star DB Kamonte Grimes

Some fans don’t get too excited about the addition of three-star prospects, even though the majority of recruits end up in that category. Yet, one three-star defensive back, Kamonte Grimes, is one that makes a lot of sense at Michigan, especially in the role U-M envisions him playing.

Last week, Grimes, who has been told by Michigan football he could play a role similar to Jabrill Peppers, just without the offense, picked up a projection from EJ Holland of Rivals to Michigan.

He’s ranked 516th in the 247 sports composite rankings but at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, he has a ton of upside and could be a corner, safety or viper. While no other experts besides Holland have projected him to the Wolverines, they seem to be comfortably in the lead.

3-star RB Tavierre Dunlap

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but I absolutely love the game of three-star running back Tavierre Dunlap. The 6-foot, 196-pound running back from Texas is a fast, physical runner who would be ideal in Josh Gattis’ system.

He doesn’t catch the ball all that much, but he averaged over 10 yards per rushing attempt last season in high school and would be a great fit along with Donovan Edwards, who is much more of a multi-purpose guy.

Out of all the guys on the list, Dunlap is the probably the one I am most unsure about. It’s hard to know if Michigan will use that final spot for a corner, a receiver, another defensive tackle or linebacker or a second running back. To me, Dunlap makes the most sense and if the Wolverines really make a strong push for him, I think they get him.
