Will a blue-chip QB be Michigan football's next commitment?

Michigan football landed a second commitment in the 2027 recruiting class on Monday. Who the recruit who could be up next?

Michigan football missed out on a few 2026 targets over the weekend, but had some good news come its way on Monday, with a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Tristan Dare.

Dare is 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, and has played right tackle in high school. He feels like a guard, but could have a chance to play offensive tackle.

Either way, the Wolverines are off to a solid start in the 2027 class, with a pair of offensive line pledges. Neither is ranked as a four-star prospect, yet, but the first four-star commitment for Michigan football in the 2027 recruiting class could come any day.

It might even come from a quarterback.

Is a blue-chip commitment coming for Michigan footbal in 2027?

Mcihigan has been trending up with four-star quarterback Malachi Zeigler, one of the quarterbacks the Wolverines have offered in the 2027 class.

Out of Benton, Louisiana, Zeigler is a dual-threat who is ranked No. 156 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings (No. 12 among quarterbacks). 247 Sports rankings (just their own) have him ranked 95th overall.

There haven't been any crystal ball projections or expert projections from Rivals/On3, but here's what Zeigler told Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider about the Wolverines in a recent interview:

"In terms of Ann Arbor, I think I have a great relationship with them," he said. "I love every time I've spoken with Coach Moore, Coach Lindsey, and Coach (Sinagoga). I actually just texted Coach (Sinagoga) a few minutes ago. I sent him some clips from a recent throwing session just asking him, 'what do you think? How do you see that? What corrections can you make?' We're not even on the phone. We're just texting back and forth about, 'hey… maybe work on this, or hey, I like what you're doing.' Just stuff like that. So, just that connection that we have, I think, is really cool."

Zeigler told Webb a decision could be coming "soon." He clarified that to mean it could be a few weeks, or maybe around November. Ole Miss and SMU might be the biggest competitors (21 offers) at this point, but if a decision comes in the next few weeks, it feels like the smart money is on Michigan.
