It wasn't a great weekend on the recruiting trail for the Michigan football program. The Wolverines were finalists for three recruits who announced their commitments over the weekend.

As expected, Michigan went 0-for-3. Deuce Geralds, the defensive lineman, committed to LSU. Davon Benjamin, the top-50 overall prospect (cornerback), was the one that you might Michigan football might have a chance to pull off.

The Wolverines had built some momentum with Benjamin, but all the buzz was centered on Oregon, and the defensive back from California chose the Ducks. Michigan was also pushing to land four-star linebacker Anthony Davis, but he committed to Ole Miss instead.

So where does that leave Michigan football recruiting and what's next?

Danny Odem and JJ Dunnigan are four-star cornerbacks committed to Nebraska and Kansas. Odem is from Florida. Dunnigan is from Manhattan, Kansas. That's the home of the Kansas State Wildcats, but Kansas was able to land the talented DB ranked No. 148 overall.

Odem is ranked No. 203 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. I would expect the Wolverines to make a run at both cornerbacks. The Wolverines have three solid defensive backs commitments with Andre Clarke, Dorian Barney, and Jordan Deck, but an elite cover corner is desired. Odem and Dunnigan would meet that requirement.

We'll see how hard the Wolverines push to flip those prospects. It feels like the defensive line might be set, unless another big body comes along that interests Michigan football. The Wolverines already have five blue-chip prospects committed along the defensive line, including five-star Carter Meadows, a newly-minted five-star in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

DQ Forkpa is the name to know at linebacker. The four-star has been projected to Florida but pushed back a commitment date for July, after a push from Wolverines to wait until September. He's the top target on the board now, ranked No. 226 overall at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds.
